Very large and imposing pair of andirons or fire dogs. They incredibly heavy, 10 Kg each, and made of solid cast iron. They measure 44cm tall and 22cm wide. They extend back 39cm. The design incorporates stylized natural forms, specifically a vine and grape motif, which was a common characteristic of the Arts and Crafts movement's emphasis on nature-inspired, yet simplified, decoration. However, there are definitely hints of Gothic Revival too. Andirons are used to support logs in a fireplace, allowing air circulation for a better fire and preventing logs from rolling onto the hearth floor.
